Gujarat Maritime University is looking to hire Professor, Associate Professor, and Associate Professors at their campus in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Professor

Essential Academic Qualifications and Experience

1. An eminent scholar having a PhD degree in the concerned/ allied/ relevant discipline viz. International Trade Law or Maritime Law is highly desirable and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 research publications in the peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120 as per the criteria given in Appendix-II, Table-2 as mentioned in the UGC Regulations, 2018.

2. A Master’s degree in Law with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/ relevant/ viz. International Law is mandatory. A specialization in Maritime Law or International Trade Law, either as a principal subject or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, is highly desirable.

3. A minimum of ten (10) years of teaching experience in University/ College as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/ Professor, and/ or research experience at an equivalent level at the University/ National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided a doctoral candidate.

OR

1. An outstanding professional, having a Ph.D. degree in the relevant/ allied/ applied disciplines viz. International Trade Law or Maritime Law either as a principal subject or allied subject, from any academic institutions (not included in A above)/ industry, who has made significant contribution to the knowledge in the concerned/ allied/ relevant discipline, supported by documentary evidence provided he/ she has ten (10) years’ of experience.

Associate Professor of Law (Maritime Law/International Trade Law)

Essential Academic Qualifications and Experience

1. A good academic record, with a PhD Degree in the concerned/ allied/ relevant discipline viz. International Trade Law or Maritime Law, either as principal subject or an allied subject.

2. A Master’s degree in Law with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/ relevant/ viz. International Law is mandatory. A specialization in Maritime Law or International Trade Law, either as a principal subject or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, is highly desirable.

3. A minimum of eight (08) years’ of experience of teaching and/ or research in an academic/ research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/ industry with a minimum of seven (07) publications in the peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of Seventy five (75) as per the criteria given in Appendix-II, Table-2 as mentioned in the UGC Regulations, 2018.

Assistant Professor of Law (Maritime Law/International Trade Law)

Essential Academic Qualifications and Experience

1. A Master’s degree in Law with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/ relevant/ viz. International Law is mandatory. A specialization in Maritime Law or International Trade Law, either as a principal subject or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, is highly desirable.

2. Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET)-in Law conducted by the UGC, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/ SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./ Ph.D. degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET/ SLET/ SET :

Provided, the candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/ Bye-laws/ Regulations of the Institution awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/ SLET/ SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions :-

a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;

b) The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners;

c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;

d) The Candidate has published two research papers from his/ her Ph.D. work, out of which atleast one is in a referred journal;

e) The candidate has presented atleast two (02) papers based on his/ her Ph. D work in Conferences/ seminars sponsored/ funded/ supported by the UGC/ ICSSR/ CSIR or any similar agency.

The fulfilment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the University concerned.

Note: NET/ SLET/ SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET/ SLET/ SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/ SET.

OR

1. The PhD degree has been obtained from a Foreign University/ Institution with a ranking among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following:

(i) Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)

(ii) The Times Higher Education (THE) or

(iii) The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai).

Note : The Academic score as specified in Appendix-II (Table-3A) for Universities, and Appendix-II (Table-3B) for Colleges as mentioned in the UGC Regulations, 2018 shall be considered for short-listing of the candidates for interview only and the selections shall be based only on the performance in the interview.

How to apply

The application in the prescribed format along with DD (Demand Draft) and the relevant supporting documents should reach “The Registrar, Gujarat Maritime University, Transitory Campus at GNLU, Attalika Avenue, Knowledge Corridor, Koba, Gandhinagar, Gujarat- 382426, India” by 5:00 PM on or before November 10, 2025.

The application form must be sent through Indian Post (Registered Post or Speed Post)/Courier. Application form submitted in person will not be accepted by the University.

Unreserved category candidates: ₹1000

Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe/ Differently-abled (Physically and visually differently-abled) category candidate: ₹ 700

Fees shall be paid through Demand Draft drawn in favor of “Gujarat Maritime University” payable at Gandhinagar. No other mode of fees payment shall be accepted. Application form without the requisite application fees shall be summarily rejected.
