Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Deeptangshu Kar, a third-year student at the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU).

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

I have always been inclined towards social sciences and language studies since my school days. I had decided to pursue Humanities in senior secondary level as early as in class 7. I used to be an avid reader of fictions written in Bengali, my mother tongue.

My initial inspiration to study Law was drawn from a Bollywood movie named “Shahid”. I was absolutely in love with the courage and conviction of the titular character, played by brilliant Rajkumar Rao.

I researched a bit on the prospects of legal studies in India, and came to know about the National Law Universities. Eventually, I prepared my mind to sit for CLAT.

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

I wanted to be part of the India’s one of the best legal news websites so as to be a part of the movement of making legal updates more and more accessible.

I closely followed the exceptional journalistic journey of this website for the last few years, originally suggested by a senior of mine back in the first year of law school, and wanted to extend its network.

I enjoy writing on legal topics, and maintain a blog from where I regularly write on legal issues.

As a Campus Ambassador, I wanted to expand my network in the legal fraternity and work closely with some of the best legal professionals.

What are your plans after graduation?

Though nothing is finally decided yet, I want to practice public laws at the Supreme Court of India.

Before that, I want to have the first-hand experience of basic drafting and pleading skills at the Calcutta High Court. I also intend to pursue a master's from a reputed University in the US.
