Symbiosis Law School Noida wins 2nd Surana & Surana NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot

20 teams from across the country participated in the competition.

A team from Symbiosis Law School Noida has won the 2nd Surana & Surana National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition 2025–26.

The team comprised Upmanyu Das, Nandika Aggarwal and Vedanshi Gupta.

Winners, SLS Noida

National Law University, Jodhpur emerged as the runners-up team. The team comprised Tanu Tyagi, Arin Balia and Anubhav Meena.

Runners-Up, NLU Jodhpur

The team from Chanakya National Law University, Patna comprising Anushka Priya, Geetika Garg and Kumar Nishant won the Best Memorial award.

Pavithra Nair of Hidayatullah National Law University won the Best Student Advocate award.

The final round was judged by Jharkhand High Court Justice Ambuj Nath, Advocate Indarjit Sinha and National Law School India University, Associate Prof S Nagarathna.

The moot proposition centred on the constitutional balance between freedom of speech under Article 19(1)(a) and the State’s interest in protecting national sovereignty and security. Participants dealt with issues related to criminal liability for political speech, arrest procedure, custodial remand, and the High Court’s power to quash an FIR.
