Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Amartya Choubey, a fourth-year law student at the Christ Academy Institute of Law, Bengaluru.

Why did you choose to study law?

I scored pretty well in my 10th board examinations. My Parents thought I was born to be a great engineer, but it took less than a month into my 11th standard to realize that science was not my cup of tea.

This is when I was told by my legal studies teacher, who was an Advocate at Jharkhand High Court, that I could pursue law as I have all the talent to make a great advocate.

Like any other child, I had the desire to be successful and society had taught me well that success is understood in terms of how much I earn. So I was convinced that law was the only option for me after 12th.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

I have been following Bar & Bench ever since I joined law school. I have been a beneficiary of their free service for almost four years now.

So when I read about the Bar & Bench’s Campus Ambassador program, I thought this could be an opportunity for me to work with the organization I admire so much, and also to thank Bar & Bench in a small way by contributing to the organization for their incalculable constant service.

What are your plans after completing law?

When I joined law school, the idea was to join judicial services, but one of my seniors changed my entire perspective about law.

I learnt how law can be used as a powerful instrument to bring about a positive change in the society. Ever since then I have dedicated all my time in law school to make myself competent enough to give good representation to the poor and vulnerable in a court of law. I wish to pursue a career in corporate litigation.
