Former Khaitan & Co Partner Tanu Banerjee has joined Jio Studios as its Chief Legal Officer (CLO).
Banerjee announced the move on LinkedIn on Tuesday, saying she had joined Jio Studios last week after wrapping up a five-and-a-half-year stint at Khaitan & Co.
At Khaitan & Co, Banerjee was a Partner in the Corporate & Commercial and Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) practice groups and led the firm's media and entertainment practice from Mumbai. Legal 500 had recognised her as one of the practice heads of Khaitan & Co's TMT team.
Her practice has focused on technology, media, entertainment and general corporate and commercial law.
She has advised OTT platforms, digital media companies, technology businesses, production houses and filmmakers on transactions and commercial arrangements, including media and technology M&A, content licensing, acquisition of content rights, film financing, original productions, technology collaborations, advertising and branding arrangements and talent engagements.
She has also advised domestic and foreign clients on joint ventures, corporate restructuring, business transfers, commercial contracts and legal and regulatory compliance in India.
Among the clients Banerjee advised while at Khaitan & Co were Reliance Jio and Jio Studios.
Her work for the group included advising on regulatory matters concerning digital media platforms and media and entertainment acquisitions.
Before joining Khaitan & Co, Banerjee spent around four years as a Partner at IndusLaw in Bengaluru.
She had earlier worked as a Senior Associate at Wadia Ghandy & Co and DSK Legal. She began her career as legal counsel at Reliance ADAG, where she worked from 2008 to 2010.
