Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT) is looking hire Law clerks cum Research Assistants and Court Typists cum Stenographers in Bengaluru on honorarium basis.

Applications are invited through mail or Registrar's office from eligible candidates for selection to 10 posts of Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistant and 05 post of Court Typist cum stenographer that may arise as on the date of issuance of final selection proceedings.

The following are the terms and conditions for selection of Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistant:-

1. The Law clerks-cum-Research Assistants will be attached to one of the Hon'ble Judges/Members of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal and He / She will assist the Hon'ble Judges/Members not only in the judicial work but also in the administrative work.

2. The duties and responsibilities of a Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant are:

   • Reading of case files, preparation of the case including case summary and notes and chronology of events;

   • Identifying facts and issues and questions that may arise or may have to be addressed;

   • Presence in the Court during the hearing of cases, taking notes of arguments and citations;

   • Research work on case law, books and articles for the purpose of assisting the Judges/Members in the preparation of judgments; and

   • Assisting the Judges/Members to prepare speeches and academic papers.

3. The Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant will have free access to the Court Room / Library and also to all materials including Computers and Internet. If necessary, he / she will ¹be allowed access to the Chamber of the Hon'ble Judges/Members, with the permission of the respective Hon'ble Judges/Members.

4. During the period of assignment, the Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant will be paid a monthly honorarium of 60,000/- (Rupees Sixty Thousand only). The term of assignment shall be one year from the date of report to duty which is extension by Karnataka Appellate Tribunal of subject to Karnataka/ Government.

Eligibility:

The applicants who are eligible to apply are:-

• Must possess a Degree in Law granted by a recognized University established by Law in India with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

• Must not have completed the age of 30 years as on the last date of application.

• Must have enrolled as an Advocate in Karnataka State Bar Council.

• Must have knowledge of operation of computers.

Note:- Applications of ineligible candidates will summarily rejected without notice.

The  following are the terms and conditions for selection of Court Typist Cum Stenographer:-

1. The Typist Cum Stenographer are shall possess a minimum qualification with Kannada & English short hand as prescribed.

2. The engagement as Court Typist cum Stenographer is purely temporary, on short-term basis; with honorarium of Rs. 40,000/- per month, payable from the date of assignment directly to the Bank Account of the Court Typist. No other allowances/perquisites shall be admissible.

3. The period of engagement shall ordinarily be one year from the date of joining, extendable by a further period of one year only, at the discretion of the Hon'ble Chairman.

4. The assignment shall not confer any right/claim for regular appointment or for continuation beyond the period of engagement.
