Out of the 36,876 admission matters, all preliminaries are complete in 27,526 matters and are ready for hearing. 9,260 cases are incomplete.

As far as regular hearing matters are concerned, all preliminaries are complete after admission in 20,753 cases. which are ready for hearing, while 490 matters are not ready.

Thus, 9,750 cases, or 16.80 percent of the cases are not ready and cannot be listed for hearing.

Coming to Constitution Bench cases, a total of 573 Constitution Bench matters are pending in Supreme Court.

This number might not reflect the number of Constitution Benches that need to be constituted. This is because out of the 573 Constitution Bench cases, only 55 are ‘main matters’ while the remaining 518 are ‘connected cases’.

Out of the 55 ‘main matters’, 44 are to be heard by a Constitution bench of five judges, 4 are to be heard by a Constitution Bench of seven judges and the remaining 7 by a Constitution Bench of nine judges.
