BMR Legal Partner Madhav Rao has left the firm to join Advaita Legal as Senior Attorney. In his new position, Rao will handle indirect tax litigation working along with founding Partner Sujit Ghosh.
Rao has been practicing since 1981 and joined Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan in 1986. He was heading the indirect tax litigation at Lakshmikumaran until April last year, when he left to join BMR Legal.
Rao is not the only high level lateral hired by Advaita Legal. The firm has also hired ex-Khaitan & Co Principal Associate Satyajit Gupta as a Principal (equivalent to a salaried partner), to build up firm’s corporate and M&A practice.
Gupta graduated from National Law School of India Unversity, Bangalore in 2003 and started his career at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Since then, he has worked at Amarchand Mangaldas, and Herbert Smith before returning to India to join AZB & Partners in 2008.
In 2014, he left AZB to join Khaitan & Co as Principal Associate. In 2015, he resigned from Khaitan.
Advaita Legal was set up in 2013 by the then Partner at BMR Legal Sujit Ghosh, and KPMG’s Sunil Moti Lala.
Sujit is based in Delhi and heads the firm’s indirect tax litigation while Sunil heads the corporate tax litigation. Within two years of its existence, the firm is already 55 lawyers strong.
