Bar & Bench

The Allahabad High Court will soon see the appointment of 19 new additional judges.

The new appointees are:

  1. Ajay Bhanot
  2. Saral Srivastava
  3. Jayant Banerji
  4. Jahangir Jamshed Munir
  5. Salil Kumar Rai
  6. Neeraj Tiwari
  7. CD Singh
  8. Rajeev Joshi
  9. Rajesh Singh Chauhan
  10. Rajeev Gupta
  11. K Ajit

  13. Rajnish Kumar
  14. Dinesh Kumar Singh
  15. Abdul Moin
  16. Rajeev Mishra
  17. Irshad Ali
  18. Vivek Kumar Singh
  19. Rahul Chaturvedi

The appointment of these judges will significantly decrease the number of vacancies at the High Court; the working strength will now be 110, as against a sanctioned strength of 160 judges.

The Supreme Court’s warning to the Centre last year in Lt Kabotra’s petition seeking expedition in appointment of judges seems to have paid off. Then Chief Justice of India TS Thakur had threatened to summon officials of the Prime Minister’s office in view of the Centre’s lackadaisical approach in passing appointment files.

In July this year, nine new additional judges had been appointed to the High Court.

Sources reveal that the new appointees are likely to be sworn in next week.
