AP & Telangana High Court to get six new judges

Six lawyers have been appointed as additional judges of the AP & Telangana High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad.

Five of the lawyers – P Keshava Rao, K Vijayalakshmi, M Ganga Rao, Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Amarnath Goud – practice at the High Court, while one other lawyer – DV Somayajulu – appears at the Visakhapatnam district courts.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointments. The High Court collegium had reportedly recommended the names of five lawyers and five district judges for elevation in May last year.

The High Court is currently working with less than half of its sanctioned strength; there are has 34 vacancies as against a sanctioned strength of 61 judges. Justice Raja Elango is expected to retire at the end of this month.
