Arun Kumar J. made permanent judge of Patna HC [Read Notification]

The Central Government has appointed additional judge, Justice Arun Kumar as a permanent judge of the Patna High Court.

The appointment has been made pursuant to a resolution passed last month by the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointment notification states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Arun Kumar, Additional Judge of the Patna High Court to be a Judge of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

After obtaining his law degree from Patna University in 1987, Justice Arun Kumar practiced in the Patna High Court. He dealt with civil, criminal and Constitutional matters for a decade.

He was appointed Additional District and Sessions Judge in 1997. In 2006, he was promoted to District Judge. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Patna High Court in 2016.

Whereas five other names were also recommended by the Patna High Court to the Collegium for being made permanent judges, only Justice Kumar’s name was considered for timebeing since he is due to retire soon i.e. on August 21, 2018.
