The Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday lamented that the infrastructure in many courts, especially lower courts, is pathetic.
He highlighted his recent visits to certain courts when he found while some courts have decent infrastructure, others lag behind.
"I have visited some of the courts and while some are very good, some are in pathetic condition and I feel ashamed," he said.
In this regard, he highlighted how he had received a letter from Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal saying that he has nominated one judge to deal with the problem of infrastructure.
"I would request the Delhi CM to form a committee on the issue of infrastructure as well," the Law Minister urged.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Delhi High Court's newly built 'S' block building.
Rijiju in his speech also said that courts in India would soon go paperless and he has asked Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud to ensure that the same is done.
"For e-courts, I have requested the CJI to complete the task in his tenure. Very soon the Indian judiciary will go paperless," the Law Minister stated.
He also highlighted the relatively high population of lawyers in the national capital.
"Delhi perhaps has one of the highest number of lawyers. When I went to Tis Hazari court, it felt like a rally. I am sure with the help of Centre and State government, we can solve at least half of the problems."
He also expressed hope that pendency of cases can be brought down.
"The pendency I am told will reach 5 crore soon. I want there to be a single window system so that everything can be dealt with one click," Rijiju said.
