Justice Gita Mittal becomes first woman Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir High Court

The Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court,  Justice Gita Mittal has been appointed the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

Justice Mittal would be the first woman Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

Justice Mittal’s appointment was signed off by the President of India pursuant to Article 95 of the Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended her name for the next Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on July 16.

The appointment would come into effect from the day she resumes charge of the office of Chief Justice.

Justice Mittal has been functioning as Acting Chief Justice in the Delhi High Court since April 2017.

She was confirmed as a permanent judge of the Delhi High Court on February 20, 2006, after she was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court on July 16, 2004.
