Centre notifies appointment of four judicial officers as judges of Kerala High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of the four judicial officers in September 2021.

The Central government has notified the appointment of four judicial officers as additional judges of the Kerala High Court.

The judicial officers who have been appointed are

1. CK Jayachandran;

2. Sophy Thomas;

3. PG Ajithkumar;

4. CS Sudha.

Sophy Thomas, is currently serving as the Registrar General of the High Court, the first woman ever to be appointed to this post. An alumnus of Government Law College, Ernakulam, Thomas had previously served as the Principal District and Sessions Judge in Thrissur.

PG Ajithkumar is presently the Subordinate Judiciary Registrar. He had previously occupied the post of Additional Director of the Kerala Judicial Academy.

C Jayachandran is serving as Principal District and Sessions Judge in Kottayam district while CS Sudha is Principal District and Sessions Judge in Ernakulam district.

Sudha is also the current Additional Director of the Kerala Judicial Academy.

The Kerala High Court collegium had recommended their elevation in June 2021 and the same was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in September 2021.

The Kerala High Court currently has 37 judges including Chief Justice S Manikumar.

With these appointments, the vacancies at the Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 47 judges, will come down to six.
