The Supreme Court today clarified that the seat allotment for various National Law Universities (NLUs) based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2018) will be subject to the outcome of the petition in the Court.

A vacation Bench of Justices AK Goel and Ashok Bhushan heard the batch of petitions which have raised a series of grievances against the manner in which CLAT 2018 was conducted this year.

The allotment of seats will now proceed as scheduled but the final allotment of seats will be subject to the outcome of the petition in Supreme Court. The first indicative seat allotment list is due to be published tomorrow, ie June 7.

Meanwhile, National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), the organizing University, today submitted its report on the grievances raised by various candidates. The Court directed that a copy of the report be served on the petitioners.

This report has been prepared pursuant to the order of the Court, which had directed NUALS to constitute a grievance redressal committee to look into the complaints raised by the candidates.

The matter will now be heard on June 11.

Last week, the Court refused to stay the publication of the results of CLAT 2018, which were released on May 31.

After a number of petitions were filed in various high courts challenging the conduct of this year’s exam, a petition finally came to be filed in the Supreme Court as well.
