The Supreme Court Collegium has endorsed the appointment of Kerala High Court judge, Justice PR Ramachandra Menon as the next Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The recommendation was made in view of the fact that the Chhattisgarh High Court’s Chief Justice, AK Tripathi recently tendered his resignation after he was appointed as a judicial member of the Lokpal. Following his resignation,  Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.

In view of the same, the Collegium has recommended that Justice Ramachandra Menon be appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The resolution passed on Monday states,

“Mr. Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon is the senior-most Judge from Kerala High Court and has been functioning there since his elevation as Judge of that High Court. Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium finds Mr. Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly.“

While making the recommendation the Collegium also noted that if Justice Ramachandra’s proposed appointment is cleared by the Government, there will be two Chief Justices from Kerala High Court.
