A Delhi court on Saturday sought a report from the Delhi Police on a plea seeking the registration of a first information report (FIR) against Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for her remarks comparing government officials to Hanuman.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwani Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Court said that the report should be filed by October 15, when the case will be heard next.

The court passed the order while hearing a plea filed by Ram Niwas Sharma. He has sought action against Gupta for her remarks on September 23, 2025, during an official government programme for the starting of DTC bus services from Delhi to Baraut (Uttar Pradesh).

According to Sharma, Gupta made the following remark during the programme,

"Ye jo hamare Dilli sarkar ke adhikari hain ye sare Hanuman hain .In hanumano ki jabtak puch me aag lagti hai to sari apni power yaad aati hai, us se pehle bhul jaate hain. Hanuman jee mujhe isliye yaad aye kyonki ham marghat bale Baba ke dwar par baithe hain (These officials of the Delhi government are all like Hanuman. They remember all their power only when their tails are set on fire; before that, they forget about it. Hanuman came to my mind because we are sitting at the doorstep of the Marghat Wale Baba).”

According to reports, Gupta's comments drew controversy with some quarters alleging that he comment insulted Lord Hanuman and religious beliefs.

Ram Niwas Sharma has pointed out that Gupta made the statement at a public forum, during an official government programme, and was widely heard by officials, attendees, and members of the public.

Therefore, he states that an FIR should be registered against her.
