Delhi government's Additional Standing Counsel (ASC) Amol Sinha has granted consent to initiate criminal contempt of court proceedings against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) legal head Ratna Singh over her social media criticism of a Chief Judicial Magistrate in Saket Courts.

Advocate Kausik Chatterjee had sought action against Singh through a representation dated October 14 and a supplementary one dated October 28.

In his November 2 response to Chatterjee, Sinha said the posts prima facie attract Section 2(c)(i) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.

The controversy arose from proceedings before Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhinav Pandey of South-East District.

Singh had approached the Court seeking an FIR against police personnel who detained her on October 10 while she was trying to join CJP protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. She had also sought release from alleged detention.

The Court declined the relief.

Singh then posted the following on X:

"Judge serving the master. Went for break/meeting 4 times during entire hearing. Order without any application of law," read one of her tweets.

In another tweet, she said, “@DelhiPolice is following order from master. Judge is following order from master."

ASC Sinha said that Singh's posts imputed extraneous influence to a judge.

He said the posts suggested the judge acted on the instructions of an unidentified external authority, without any factual foundation, and were capable of undermining public confidence in the administration of justice.
