The Delhi High Court has designated Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Dheeraj Mor as a Special Judge to preside over the cases related to the alleged illegalities in allocation of coal blocks across India.

The appointment was made by the High Court on April 21 following the transfer of Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj, who has now been posted as the HC Registrar General.

The decision to transfer the judicial officers was approved by the Supreme Court on April 8.

"Mr. Arun Bhardwaj presently acting as the Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) (Coal Block Cases) -01, on the request made by the High Court of Delhi, is relieved of the present posting. In his place, Mr. Dheeraj Mor, Addl. Sessions Judge, Patiala House Courts, will take over as the Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) (Coal Block Cases) and other connected matters. The request for relieving Mr. Sanjay Bansal acting as the Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) (Coal Block Cases)-02 will be entertained after a period of six months," the top court ordered in the Manohar Lal Sharma vs The Principle Secretary & Others case known as Coal scam case.

In the Manohar Lal Sharma case, the top court has been monitoring the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the allocation of various coal blocks.

In 2014, Supreme Court had cancelled 214 coal block allocations made since 1993 and designated a special court for trial of the criminal cases being probed by the CBI.
