The Delhi High Court Bar Association has contributed Rs 44 lakh towards Kerala Flood Relief Fund.

While the Delhi High Court Registry has donated Rs 5 lakh towards the cause, Delhi High Court judges pitched in an amount of Rs 4.5 lakh.

Apart from the monetary contribution, the Delhi High Court would also send four trucks full of relief material collected at its mobilization drive today.

Speaking at the mobilization drive, Delhi High Court Bar Association President Kirti Uppal said that the Association would, to the best of its ability, help other calamity hit States as well.

“It is only in adversity that we know who we are.“, he said.

The event was attended by Supreme Court judge Justice Kurian Joseph, and the judges of the High Court including Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, Justice S Ravindra Bhat, Justice S Muralidhar, Justice Prathiba M Singh, Justice C Harishankar, Justice Siddharth Mridul, Justice IS Mehta, Justice AK Pathak  as well as many advocates and volunteers.

“This is the spirit of being Indian..a common man has more Constitutional spirit in them.”, Justice Joseph said while acknowledging the contribution made by people across the country irrespective of caste, colour, creed and language.

While Chief Justice Menon thanked the Bar Association and volunteers for “having risen to the occasion“, Justice Bhat said that “this kind of coordination in the bar was unparalleled” and heartwarming.

The relief material collected at the event included pulses, rice, stationary, medicines, sanitary pads, clothes etc, and would be sent to Kerala tomorrow morning via train.
