The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to British national Jagtar Singh Johal @ Jaggi, who is accused of targeted killings linked to a transnational conspiracy allegedly hatched by the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF).
A Division Bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja passed the order.
A detailed copy of the same is awaited.
Johal was arrested in 2017 in Punjab. He is accused in eight cases linked to a series of targeted killings and attempted murders across Punjab's Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts during 2016-17.
The killings were allegedly orchestrated by the Khalistan Liberation Force to destabilise law and order in the state. The actual shooters, Hardeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh, allegedly carried out these killings of prominent figures, including RSS and Hindu organisation leaders.
Johal is accused of acting as a financier/courier, having delivered £3,000 from UK-based KLF associate Gursharan Singh to operative Harminder Singh @ Mintoo in Paris, which was subsequently passed to shooter Hardeep Singh to motivate him and fund the conspiracy.
The trial court denied him bail in all seven cases. While five bail pleas were decided on September 7, 2022, the rest were rejected on April 25, 2024.
Notably, the High Court had previously rejected Johal's bail pleas on September 18, 2024. The five cases, decided by the trial court in September 2022, were rejected on the grounds of delay, the remaining two were dismissed on merits.
The matter then went to the Supreme Court. The top court, on July 15, 2026, remanded all the cases back to the High Court for fresh consideration.
The High Court today granted bail to Johal.
