Distribute samosas and tea to DHCBA employees: Delhi High Court to lawyers as condition to waive costs

The Delhi High Court recently directed counsel for a litigant to distribute chai and samosa to Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) employees as condition to do away with costs imposed by it earlier.

In an order passed on September 17, Justice Saurabh Banerjee directed the lawyers for the petitioner to comply with the direction within one week.

"The present application is disposed of, however, learned counsel for the petitioners is called upon to distribute samosas and tea to all the employees of Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) within a period of one week."

The matter pertained to cheque bounce case against the petitioner company, Indus Birra Beverages and its officials.

The company was seeking quashing of the criminal complaint under Negotiable Instruments Act.

On August 20, the Court had dismissed the petition and imposed costs of ₹50,000 on the petitioers for not making full disclosure of a trial court order.

They then filed an application to waive the costs.

The Court allowed the same on September 17 subject to the lawyers distributing tea and samosas to DHCBA employees.

Senior Advocate Bahar-U-Barqi, with advocates Rahul Pal and Subham Prasad appeared for the petitioner.

Advocate Mathur Arora appeared for the respondent.
