Economic Laws Practice opens its sixth office in Chennai after setting up an office in Bangalore last year. Equity Partner Nishant Shah, who is heading the Bangalore office, will also head the Chennai office along with Associate Partner Karthik Sundaram, who is based in Chennai.

In the firm’s press release, Managing Partner Rohan Shah said that, “This office has been opened in response to those requests and the huge upsurge in quality legal work in Chennai.”

“At a time where there is renewed investment belief in India, we are delighted that we have an all-India network of six offices with quality lawyers in all of the centres which are important to the investment process”, added Rohan Shah.

The Chennai office, located at Nungambakkam High Road, will primarily cater to the firm’s Tax and Litigation clients with plans to also service corporate clients in the near future.

With the new office, ELP now has a presence in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai.

This is the second example of big law firms expanding to southern India this year. Recently Chennai-based law firm Vichar Partners had merged with J. Sagar Associates to set up JSA’s office in Chennai.
