Ex-Amarchand Partner Abhimanyu Bhattacharya joins Khaitan as Partner; Iqbal Khan promoted as Associate Partner

Abhimanyu Bhattacharya, a Partner at Amarchand Mangaldas, has joined Khaitan & Co. as a Partner in the Capital Markets Practice. The firm has also promoted Iqbal Khan as an Associate Partner in the M&A and Private Equity Practice at  the firm’s Mumbai office.

Abhimanyu is a law graduate of the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) and also an LL.M. graduate from the National University of Singapore, where he was a Faculty Graduate Scholar. He had reportedly resigned from Amarchand in July and was slated to join Khaitan & Co.

Iqbal is a member of the M&A and Private Equity Practice Group of Khaitan & Co’s Mumbai office. According to the firm’s press release, his areas of focus are corporate and commercial transactions, private equity and venture capital investments, joint ventures and advisory on foreign investment laws and corporate laws.

Iqbal finished his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his LL.B. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to joining Khaitan & Co in 2013, he worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, New York and at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, New York.

Khaitan & Co. had recently hired Hormaz Daruwalla as an Equity Partner in the Indirect Tax group.
