HSA Advocates is expanding its presence in Kolkata with ex Argus Co-founder Ramya Hariharan and Paras Kuhad’s Prateek Ghosh, according to multiple sources in Kolkata.

However, recently appointed Managing Partner Amitabh Sharma, could not be reached for comment. Sharma happens to hail from Khaitan & Co, a law firm which started in Kolkata before expanding into a national law firm.

Ramya Hariharan, who had set up Argus Partners along with Krishnava Dutt, had resigned in 2014 to set up her own practice. This practice is expected to be merged with HSA Kolkata. 

A graduate of the University of Calcutta, Ramya had initially worked with Sinha & Co. for two years after which she joined Amarchand Mangaldas in 2004. Five years later, she set up Argus Partners. 

Ramya was not available for comment at the time of publication.

Prateek Ghosh, who was heading Paras Kuhad’s Kolkata office, will be bringing along his entire team to HSA.

This is the second time that HSA has managed to get an entire team to shift offices. In August this year, HSA hired Paras Kuhad’s entire Mumbai Litigation team along with Partner-in-Charge Amit Jajoo.

But this is not the only news, HSA Senior Partner Ranjit Prakash is leaving the firm for counsel practice.

Prakash had joined HSA in 2005 and focus practice areas are Disputes (including International arbitration) and Projects.
