Justice Alok Singh sworn in as Judge of Allahabad High Court

Justice Alok Singh was sworn in as a judge of the Allahabad High Court on Friday morning. Chief Justice Govind Mathur administered the oath of office in his library, observing social distancing given the COVID-19 pandemic.

Justice Singh joined legal practice in 1982. He initially practiced Uttar Pradesh, but later extended his practice to Delhi, and has appeared before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court, apart from the National Consumer Commission and other courts and tribunals in Delhi.

The oath taking ceremony was conducted bearing in mind social distancing norms given the COVID-19 pandemic

He was elevated as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court in October 2009. He has been transferred twice before to other High Courts, once when he was made a permanent judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in December 2009 and, thereafter, as a judge of the Jharkhand High Court in June 2012. He was transferred back to the Uttarakhand High Court in February 2013.

Last month, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer to the Allahabad High Court from the Uttarakhand High Court. The proposal was cleared by the Central Government last week.
