Justice AM Khanwilkar nominated Chairman of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee

Supreme Court judge Justice AM Khanwilkar has been nominated as the next Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

Justice Khanwilkar was nominated to the post by the Central Authority in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 read with Rule 10 of the National Legal Services Authority Rules, 1995.

A notification intimating the same was issued on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

Justice RF Nariman, who earlier held the post, retired from service recently.

The Legal Services authorities are tasked with providing legal aid and assistance to the weak and marginalized sections of the society.
