Justice Arup Kumar Goswami appointed Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati HC [Read Notification]

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice Arup Kumar Goswami as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Goswami will be taking over the duties of the Chief Justice starting tomorrow, in view of the retirement of Chief Justice, Ajit Singh.

The notification issued to this effect by the Department of Law and Justice yesterday states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by article 223 of the Constitution of India,the President is pleased to appoint Shri Arup Kumar Goswami, senior-most Judge of Gauhati High Court, to perform the duties of the Office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 06th September, 2018 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Ajit Singh, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Goswami enrolled as an Advocate in 1985 and was designated a Senior Advocate in 2004. In 2011, he was appointed an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court. His appointment was made permanent in November 2012.
