Khaitan and Amarchand act on $200 million acquisition of Vijai Electricals by Toshiba Corporation

Toshiba Corporation has acquired a substantial part of Hyderbad-based Vijai Electricals’ transmission and distribution business for $200 million (Rs.1,300 crore).

Khaitan & Co advised Toshiba with a team led by Partners Ganesh Prasad and Aakash Choubey.

Khaitan Partner Avaantika Kakkar advised on the Competition Law aspect while Executive Directors Daksha Baxi and Dinesh Agrawal advised on tax issues. Associate Partner Adheesh Nargolkar advised on the IP aspect while Sanjeev Kapoor handled litigation.

Amarchand Mangaldas advised Vijai Electricals with a team led by Mumbai-based Partner Jaya Singhania.

Toshiba will establish a new company that will absorb the acquired T&D business and also integrate Toshiba’s design and manufacturing technologies for T&D systems. The new company will also enter other growing markets in India, including power electronics systems, reports VCCircle.
