MV Kini & Co has promoted its Principal Associate Prateush Sharma (pictured) as Tax Partner in its Mumbai office. Sharma will head the firm’s tax practice replacing the Tax Head Shrikant Kamat, who has recently quit the firm.

Talking about his decision to leave, Kamat said, “The firm’s approach and my approach towards the practice area were diverse. So we mutually decided to part ways.”

He said, “I am exploring both the options of setting up my own tax practice or joining another firm. I am still deciding.”

Kamat had joined Kini & Co in March 2012 to head the firm’s tax practice.

Sharma, who will now head the firm’s tax practice, is a graduate of Meerut University. He has worked with the Federal Department of Revenue for more than a decade and a half. Prior to joining Kini in December 2012, he was working with Viraj Profiles as Head, Taxation and Legal.

The tax team currently has six lawyers including him and two chartered accountants.
