Legal scholar and former NUJS Vice-Chancellor Prof MP Singh passes away

He has also served as the Dean, Faculty of Law and Head, Department of Law, Delhi University.

Legal academician, author and jurist Prof (Dr) MP Singh has passed away at the age of 85.

Prof Singh earned his LL.M. from Columbia University and started his academic career as a lecturer at University of Meerut.

He has served as Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata; Dean of Faculty of Law and Head, Department of Law, Delhi University. He had served as Head of Law Division at the South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg.

Prof MP Singh was an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the University of Heidelberg, and a fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Institute for Advance Study, Berlin and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

He also served as a visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg, University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Kansai University, Osaka, and Renmin University of China, Beijing.

Prof Singh was an authority in constitutional law and has authored books and edited works including 'Shukla’s Constitution of India', 'Comparative Constitutional Law', 'German Administrative Law in Common Law Perspective', and 'Freedom of trade and commerce in India'.

He was also a trustee of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA).
