Assam Senior Advocate Nilayananda Dutta passed away on Sunday, September 19.

He suffered a heart attack while on a holiday with his family in Coorg.

Dutta was serving as the Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh at the time of passing.

Previously, Dutta had also served as the Advocate General of Nagaland.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) condoled his demise and issued a press statement in that regard.

"Known for his tremendous legal acumen, he possessed extensive knowledge on a variety of legal subjects. His scholarly analysis of legal issues was greatly relied upon by the Courts and governments alike. He was a deeply revered and respected personality in the fraternity. In addition to his charm and charisma, he was wonderfully gentle, kind, modest and a selfless man. The huge vacuum created by his demise cannot be filled up. We have lost one of the sharpest and most knowledgeable legal luminaries, we had. We pray for his departed soul to rest in peace and for his family to have the strength to bear the loss," the press release said.
