The Bihar government recently appointed advocates Ashwarya Sinha and Keshav Ranjan as the Additional Advocate General (AAG) to conduct the State's cases before the Supreme Court.

The appointments were notified by the Bihar Law Department on September 10, pursuant to the recommendations of the selection committee constituted under the Bihar Law Officers (Engagement) Rules, 2023.

Sinha, who is enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi, is an advocate-on-record (AOR) before the Supreme Court. He has around 17 years of legal experience and specialises in corporate and commercial dispute resolution.

He has previously represented government undertakings, companies and individuals and has also served as the standing counsel for the Central government.

Ranjan, who hails from Samastipur in Bihar, completed his schooling in the State before moving to Delhi for his legal education. He completed his LLB in 2005 and began his legal practice under the guidance of former Union Law Minister and advocate Ram Jethmalani.

Ranjan has been practising before the Supreme Court for more than 20 years and has handled matters involving civil and criminal law, constitutional law, service law, land acquisition, intellectual property rights, companies, taxation, work contracts and arbitration.

As AAGs, Sinha and Ranjan will conduct cases concerning Bihar before the Supreme Court and advise the State government.

Under the appointment notification, both AAGs will be required to personally appear in matters assigned to them and submit periodic reports on cases handled by them. They are also required to inform the Advocate General and the concerned department about any adverse orders.
