Centre notifies appointment of five new judges to Gauhati High Court

Amongst the five additional judges appointed, two are judicial officers while three are lawyers.

The Central government has notified the appointment of two judicial officers and three lawyers as Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court.

The lawyers appointed are:

1. Kakheto Sema

2. Devashis Baruah, and

3. Arun Dev Choudhury

The judicial officers recommended are:

1. Malasri Nandi, and

2. Marli Vankung

All five names were recommended by the Supreme Court collegium in a meeting held on September 1.

Marli Vakung is from a Scheduled Tribe community and is also the first woman District Judge from Mizoram to be recommended for High Court judgeship.

Kahketo Sema is the first person from Nagaland to be recommended for High Court judgeship.
