Chief Justice of India NV Ramana will deliver the 17th Justice PD Desai Memorial Lecture on the topic "Rule of Law".

The lecture, which is being organised by Chairman and members of the Justice PD Desai Memorial Lecture Committee and Trustees of Praleen Public Charitable Trust, will be held on June 30 via video conference at 6 pm.

The 16th lecture of the series was addressed by Senior Advocate Harish Salve on the topic 'Criticism of judiciary, contempt jurisdiction and its use in the age of social media'.

Salve had said criticism of judges, judicial overreach and the manner of functioning of courts does not amount to scandalising courts, and the language in which such criticism is addressed should be treated with a grin.

However, he said that judges need to be protected when aspersions are cast with respect to their independence.

Supreme Court judges Justices Jasti Chemaleshwar, UU Lalit and former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi are among those who have delivered the lectures for the earlier editions.

The link for the virtual event will be shared on June 29, 2021.
