Bike Rally: Petition filed before Karnataka High Court to declare Kannada compulsory in trial courts

Bar & Bench

On Wednesday, the Bhubaneswari Devi Jyoti procession from the City Civil Court went to the Karnataka High Court by bike, and members of the Bangalore Lawyers Literary Group filed a petition seeking to make Kannada mandatory in the State's trial courts.

The Lawyers' Literary Association said that Kannada language should be adopted compulsorily in trial courts.

The Association has appealed to the Chief Justice to allow lawyers to present arguments in Kannada and allow judges to write judgments in Kannada.

Apart from this petition, the Bengaluru Bar Association and Sahitya Koota are providing Kannadaized legal terms and providing manuals to lawyers, said the Bangalore Bar Association President Vivek Subbareddy.
