Luthra & Luthra Partner, Anil K Rai resigns; Ends eight-year stint to pursue academics

Luthra & Luthra Corporate Partner Anil K Rai has recently resigned from the firm to pursue academics.

Confirming his resignation, Rai said that, “I think it was time to move on. I want to pursue academics now”.

He joined Luthra in 2006 after teaching at National Law School of India University, Bangalore for almost nine years. He joined NLSIU in 1997 as an Assistant Professor.

Rai is a graduate of Gorakhpur University and did his Masters in Law from Delhi University. Prior to joining NLSIU, he taught at Gorakhpur University and Delhi University.

On his decision to join a law firm after teaching in law school for nine years, Rai said, “I wanted to try something new.”

Talking about his experience at Luthra, Rai said, “It was a fine experience. I am grateful to them for giving me this opportunity.”

His areas of practice included structured finance, general corporate advisory and private equity.

Mohit Saraf, the firm’s Senior Partner, said that Rai has done very well as a corporate lawyer but has now chosen to write on current issues and pursue academics.

Talking about the firm’s current outlook, Saraf said, “We are doing very well as a firm. I think our efficiency, our productivity and our revenues are all improving. We are on the right track but these are things that take some time.”
