A Delhi court on Monday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) two days' transit remand of Sourabh Chandrakar, the alleged kingpin in the Mahadev illegal betting case.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Nikhil Chopra of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order.
Chandrakar was extradited from Oman to India on November 1. He will now be taken to Chhattisgarh.
Chandrakar, a native of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, is one of the main accused in the Mahadev Online Book illegal betting case. Investigating agencies allege that Chandrakar and his associate, Ravi Uppal, built and ran a vast online betting syndicate from outside India, using a franchise network of “panels” and branches across the country.
The syndicate allegedly facilitated betting on sporting events, card games and other activities, with proceeds routed through mule bank accounts and hawala channels.
After being traced to Oman, Chandrakar was detained by the Royal Oman Police based on an Interpol Red Corner Notice. Indian agencies subsequently submitted formal extradition proposals to Omani authorities.
The CBI secured his extradition and brought him back to India on November 1, Sunday.
Advocate Tushar Giri appeared for Sourabh Chandrakar.
