Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation and NLSIU Bangalore host inaugural Rajiv K. Luthra Memorial Lecture

The theme of the lecture was “Tools or Partners? Hybrid Human - AI Creativity and the Boundaries of Copyright.”

The Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation, in collaboration with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, successfully hosted the first edition of the Rajiv K. Luthra Memorial Lecture, commemorating the visionary leadership and legacy of the late Rajiv K. Luthra.

The event commenced with welcome remarks by Prof. Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU, who reflected on the enduring contributions of Mr. Luthra to the Indian legal fraternity.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Dev Gangjee, Professor of Intellectual Property Law, University of Oxford, on the theme Tools or Partners? Hybrid Human - AI Creativity and the Boundaries of Copyright.

Prof. Gangjee’s lecture explored the rapidly evolving interfaces between human creativity, artificial intelligence, and intellectual property frameworks. A distinguished Rhodes Scholar and a leading expert at the intersection of international trade and intangible assets. Prof. Gangjee offered thought-provoking perspectives on the future of copyright law.

A dynamic discussion followed, featuring Prof. GangjeeProf. Eashan Ghosh (DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor, National Law University Delhi), and Dr. Arul George Scaria (Professor of Law, NLSIU).

Prof. Ghosh, a leading voice in Intellectual Property and Digital Law, brought insights from his research on evolving copyright frameworks, digital platform regulation, and data governance. The panellists collectively examined the implications of AI-assisted creativity and the boundaries of existing legal protections.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, allowing participants comprising students, scholars, and practitioners to interact directly with the speakers.

Gayatri K. Luthra and Ananya Gaur addressed the audience on behalf of the Rajiv K. Luthra Foundation and ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Sidharth Chauhan, Assistant Professor of Law, NLSIU.

Gayatri K. Luthra also reviewed the ongoing construction and expansion of the Rajiv K Luthra Academic Wing at NLSIU and interacted with the karmayogis involved in the renovation process. The foundation stone for the project was laid by the then Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud on the 22nd of September, 2024.
