Bar & Bench

Four High Court judges including Justices Rajiv Shakdher and Dama Seshadri Naidu might be transferred back to their parent High Courts.

According to ToI report, a meeting of the Supreme Court was held on September 22, in which the decision to transfer four judges were taken.

Justice Shakdher, who hails from the Delhi High Court, was transferred to Madras High Court in April 2016. His transfer had caused quite a furore. Eminent lawyers including Fali S Nariman, KK Venugopal and former Attorney General for India Soli Sorabjee had written to the Supreme Court Collegium requesting it to reverse the transfer of Shakdher J. but to no avail.

With the new development, Shakdher J. is slated to return to Delhi High Court.

Another judge who is likely to be transferred is Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu. Naidu J., who is currently a judge of the Kerala High Court, will be transferred back to his parent High Court, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana High Court.

Interestingly, the report also claims that Justice Jayant Patel, whose resignation has created an uproar, was initially slated to be transferred to Bombay High Court. However, the Collegium subsequently changed its decision, and decided to send him to Allahabad High Court leading to his resignation.
