Eleven persons, including two women, accused in the case registered after gun shots were fired towards Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Juhu have been remanded to police custody till November 6 by a special court designated to hear cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA).

Special Judge Satyanarayan Ramjivan Navandar passed the remand order on October 29.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch sought 10 days of custodial interrogation to probe a wider syndicate conspiracy.

The invocation of MCOCA was sanctioned by the court on October 28 after the prosecution cited the criminal antecedents of six of the accused.

The prosecution also cited financial motives, and an alleged bid to establish gang dominance.

The Crime Branch informed the court that wanted operative Anil Pandit, suspected to be affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate and facing three chargesheets in Punjab and Haryana, had claimed responsibility for the assault through social media and audio messages.

Police further submitted that three shooters admitted during interrogation that the October 18 attack on Shroff was their third attempt on Pandit’s directives.

According to the prosecution, the assailants opened fire, discharging five to six rounds at Shroff’s vehicle on the evening of October 18 as he was exiting a football ground in Juhu.

While the actor escaped unhurt, his driver and a bystander sustained bullet injuries.

The Mumbai Police subsequently registered an FIR for attempt to murder alongside offences punishable under the Arms Act.

The investigation has pointed to transnational coordination linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate.

Custodial interrogation of the accused is underway to trace the illicit financial trails and determine the broader motive behind the targeted shooting.
