Verus Advocates Litigation Partner Charles De Souza has left the firm with his team to set up Meraki Chambers.
The founding team at Meraki Chambers includes Gandhar Raikar, Mahima Sinha, Manaswi Agrawal, Aneesa Cheema, Mithila Damle, Sakshi Bhalla and Kkshitij Shah.
The team specializes in constitutional law, civil commercial litigation, arbitration, debt recovery, insolvency and corporate litigation.
Speaking to Bar & Bench, Charles De Souza said,
“Meraki Chambers is styled as a hybrid between a traditional law firm and a traditional barrister style chambers. The idea behind Meraki Chambers was to provide a platform for members of the firm to argue matters (like a Counsel practise) as well as opportunities for drafting of pleadings, advisory work and acting as Advocates on Record as well.
The intention is to bridge the gap between the two models of traditional law firm and counsel practice. Thus Meraki Chambers seeks to blend all aspects of the practise with a view to provide end to end services to clients under one roof while ensuring a steady income for the members of Meraki Chambers. Such an unconventional structure does not often fit with conventional law firm structures as seen in India.”
Raikar and De Souza both graduated in 2009. While Raikar focusses on arbitration, real estate, maritime law and civil litigation, DeSouza focuses on commercial litigation, constitutional law, debt recovery, arbitration and insolvency proceedings.
Mahima graduated in 2012, Manaswi in 2014, Aneesa in 2015, Kkshitij in 2016, and Mithila and Sakshi in 2017.
