Yatin Oza elected President of Gujarat High Court Advocates Association for the fourteenth time

Bar & Bench

Senior Advocate Yatin Oza has been elected President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association for the fourteenth time.

Yatin Oza has been an office bearer of the association 18 times in the past. He has served as secretary once, as vice president on four occasions and has had thirteen prior terms as president.

Results were declared by election officer Harshad Brahmbhatt. Oza was elected unopposed. Many Senior Advocates including Sudhir Nanavati, Nirupam Nanavati and outgoing President Asim Pandya proposed Oza’s  candidature.

Speaking to Bar & Bench, Oza said:

“I am elated. Members of the Bar love me and respect me”

Oza is known as an outspoken advocate. He was designated Senior Advocate at the age 39. He has strongly criticised the attempt by the present Union government to stifle the judiciary.

He had also written a controversial letter to the Chief Justice of India in 2016 alleging that two judges in Gujarat High Court owe their allegiance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. This had led to contempt proceedings against him, though it was subsequently dropped.

Oza has also served as a member of the Gujarat legislative assembly.
