Know your Campus Ambassador: Raunaq Bali, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi

Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Raunaq Bali, a first-year student at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

Since childhood, Law as a concept intrigued me because of the power it held. The power to right wrongs, give relief to the aggrieved, and bring wrongdoers to justice. Speaking up against injustice and unfair practices has always been one of my core personality traits. Pursuing law as a profession will empower me to do more to aid others and hopefully bring a positive change in society in the process.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

This organization has been at the forefront of bringing news and developments in the legal domain to ordinary citizens who can’t attend court hearings or understand arguments filled with legal jargon. Making the law more accessible to everyone is a remarkable and admirable thing, and I wanted to be part of Bar & Bench for this reason.

Additionally, legal journalism is a new and unconventional career path for law students, and I wanted to explore it. Since Bar & Bench is India’s biggest legal news platform, I applied for their Campus Ambassador program to learn more from them. The journey so far has been quite delightful, as I’m learning new things every day.

What are your plans after completing law?

After graduation, I would like to pursue legal journalism and make the knowledge of laws more accessible to all citizens. I am also interested in working with organizations that are working to protect human rights and personal liberties of the citizens and will strive to contribute to the development of legal policies that bring positive and meaningful change at the grassroots level of the justice system.
