GLC Mumbai: State Education Min says BCI has had change of mind, no word from BCI (yet)

Those hoping to gain admission into the Government Law College in Mumbai may not be a disappointed lot after all. Days after de-recognising the institute on grounds of “insufficient faculty and infrastructure”, the Bar Council of India has apparently had a change of heart.

In a series of tweets today evening, BJP MLA Parag Alavani said that GLC Mumbai has received the green signal from the BCI with respect to admissions this year. This was announced after a meeting that Alavani and aspiring law students had with Maharashtra’s Education Minster, Vinod Tawde.

Alavani also confirmed that admissions to GLC Mumbai would be held this year.

Thus far, we have not been able to get a confirmation from the BCI in this regard. However, it is possible that the BCI will now grant the college some more time to meet the accreditation requirements.

The fate of the other three city colleges also remains unclear at this point of time, although sources expect a clarification to be posted on the state’s education website by tomorrow.

Story to be updated soon.
