IICA and NLUJ's conference on Competition Law & Market Definition (Register by Oct 23)

In the 21st century, digital markets are transforming the economy, as technology has penetrated many aspects of people’s lifestyles, from shopping to social interaction.

Such digital platforms provide many benefits, but have also gained significant control of consumer data, which confers market power. This has raised not only competition-related concerns, but also concerns related to consumer protection and privacy.

Especially in developing economies like India, digital markets are growing exponentially and this brings with its complexities in enforcement of antitrust law.

Considering the need to evolve the antitrust measures to suit these newly created markets, the School of Competition Law and Market Regulation at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (“SoCL&MR”), and the Centre for Competition Law and Policy, National Law University Jodhpur (“CCLP”) are organising a virtual conference to facilitate the academic discussion.

About the School of Competition Law and Market Regulation

The SoCL&MR is dedicated towards creation of 'competition culture' among the market participants which shall augment competition awareness and understanding.

About the Centre for Competition Law and Policy

Established with the vision to promote interdisciplinary research in the field of competition law and policy making, In 2016, the CCLP became India’s first competition law research centre to partner the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development at its Research Partnership Platform.

About the Virtual Conference

The panel will examine the overall need to update the legislative framework to keep up with the antitrust concerns raised with the evolution of the digital markets.

This panel will also consider the scenarios of nascent markets such as India, where the antitrust authorities are required to find a balance between curbing a developing digital market and regulating it.
