India Today has come out with its list of the top law schools in India. Once again, National Law School of India University, Bangalore has found itself in pole position. And once again, the list contains a few controversial additions and omissions, to say the least.
NALSAR, Hyderabad and GNLU Gandhinagar are the only other national law universities that find mention in the top 10 law schools, at 3rd and 4th positions respectively. Faculty of Law, Delhi University is in second place. Three Pune law colleges – Symbiosis Law School, ILS and Bharati Vidyapeeth’s New Law College – make it to the top ten, at 5th, 8th and 9th places respectively.
Here is the list of the top 25 law schools:
Also in the top ten are Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University at 6th, Christ College of Law at 7th and USLLS Delhi at 10th place. HNLU Raipur, which was ranked 9th last year, has dropped to 12th in this year’s rankings.
Even stranger is the fact that some of the oldest NLUs, like NUJS Kolkata, NLIU Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur, once again do not feature in the list. Instead, they are part of the top 10 “emerging law schools”. NLU Delhi, RMLNLU Lucknow and RGNUL Patiala also feature in this list.
Here is the list of emerging law schools:
The law schools were rated on the basis of 7 criteria, including subjective heads like ‘Reputation of College’ and ‘Perceptual Rank’.
