The National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) has placed 25 students out of the 40 students who sat for recruitment from the Class of 2013, with a final round of interviews being held in the course of the next few weeks. The total batch strength of the Class of 2013 is 78.
Amarchand Mangaldas was the top recruiter, picking up four students thus far while Khaitan & Co recruited three students. Two students were placed in Trilegal while JSA hired one student. Out of the 25 placements, 12 were in the form of PPOs.
This year’s placement’s reflect a marginal drop (in terms of number of students placed) as compared to last year, where 31 students out of 50 who sat for recruitment were placed. In terms of repeat recruiters, Amarchand Mangaldas, LKS, Trilegal and Pangea3 were some of the organisations that had similar recruitment numbers last year. However ICICI Bank, which hired five students last year and four in 2011, did not make any hires this year. Khaitan & Co, which had picked up six students in 2011 but none in 2012, returned this year to pick up three students this year.
Speaking to Bar & Bench, NLIU student and member of the Recruitment Cell, Shradha Roy said that, “As compared to other univerisities, I think [the placements] could have been better. Also, a few companies decided to explore newer campuses such as Symbiosis, Amity etc so that did affect us.” Roy also admitted that the location of the institute does influence the placements to a certain degree but is nonethelss hopeful of an increase in the recruitment tally in the course of this month. The Recruitment Cell consists of students Roy and Akanksha Tambulkar, and Faculty Advisor Dr. Raka Arya.
