Announcing its intention to abide by the Supreme Court's quashing of the National Law Admission Test (NLAT), the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has stated that it will implement the judgment in letter and spirit..In line with the Supreme Court's verdict, the NLSIU will be admitting students based on CLAT scores and not on NLAT scores, states the University's press release..[Breaking] Supreme Court quashes conduct of NLAT 2020; NLSIU to admit students through CLAT this year.Following a faculty meeting held today, it is also stated that NLSIU will do everything possible to respect its founding commitment to a trimester system..Thanking students and their parents for their belief and faith in the University's ability to design and deliver the NLAT, the University has informed that refunds of amounts received for the exam will be made within the next 9-14 working days. A fee of Rs 75 will be retained however, as application processing charges, it is informed..The University has also emphasized that the School and its governing bodies will take necessary steps to welcome a new batch of students to experience NLSIU's unique and transformational educational experience..Ever since the law school announced its decision to conduct its own entrance test for admissions to its undergraduate and graduate programmes, it has been subjected to harsh criticism particularly on account the exam's technical requirements and the unexpected nature of its announcement amid the pandemic. .Till the announcement of the NLAT, the University admitted students through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), supervised by the CLAT Consortium. .NLSIU's decision to hold NLAT in lieu of CLAT after the latter test was postponed to September 28 this year had spilt over into tension between NLSIU and other NLU-members of the Consortium.
