Webinar on Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: Recent Development

The webinar was conducted on April 23, 2020. It was hosted by FTI Consulting in collaboration with Arbitration India Group, Indian Arbitration Forum, Centre for Excellence on Alternate Dispute Resolution, - Faculty of Law at Manav Rachna University, and Society of Construction Law-Young Leaders Group.

The key speakers for the webinar were Justice Prateek Jalan of the Delhi High Court and Senior Advocate Gourab Banerji. The webinar was moderated by Shashank Garg, Partner at Advani & Co, and Omar Ahmed, Partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.

The webinar involved a detailed discussion on several case laws contributing to the jurisprudence of Section 44 of the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996, which covers the scheme for enforcement of foreign awards in India. The panel also analysed the grounds under which the court can refuse enforcement of foreign awards, as per Section 48 of the Act.

Webinar on Support for interference in the Arbitral Process

The webinar was conducted on April 28, 2020. It was hosted by Young MCIA in collaboration with Arbitration India Group, Indian Arbitration Forum, Centre for Excellence on Alternate Dispute Resolution, Manav Rachna University - Faculty of Law and Society of Construction Law - Young Leaders Group.

The key speakers for the webinar were David Joseph, QC and Senior Advocate Ciccu Mukhopadhaya. The webinar was moderated by Shashank Garg and Omar Ahmed.

The panel in this webinar analysed a series of case laws from both India and UK, which discuss the scope of judicial interreference at various stages of an arbitration proceeding.

Webinar on Appointment of Arbitrators

The webinar was conducted on April 29, 2020, by Khaitan & Co in collaboration with Arbitration India Group, Indian Arbitration Forum, Centre for Excellence on Alternate Dispute Resolution, Manav Rachna University - Faculty of Law and Society of Construction Law - Young Leaders Group.

The main speakers for this webinar were Justice Sanjay K Kaul of the Supreme Court of India and Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court. The webinar was moderated Shashank Garg and Aseem Chaturveti, Partner at Khaitan & Co.

The webinar involved a detailed examination of Section 11 of the Act, which deals with appointment of arbitrators and the case laws around it.

Webinar on Claims of Damages under the Indian Contract Act

Held on May 15, 2020, this webinar was conducted by Manav Rachna University. The speakers of the webinar were Justice Jayanth Nath of the Delhi High Court and Senior Advocate Amit Sibal. The event was moderated by Ankit Jain (Advocate, Delhi High Court) and Vaibhav Agnihotri (Partner, SKT Associates).

The webinar saw a detailed discussion on the provisions of Indian Contract Act that deal with damages and the relevant case laws on the subject.

On May 15, 2020, this webinar was conducted with the support of Indian Arbitration Forum, Arbitration India Group, Centre for Excellence on Alternate Dispute Resolution, Manav Rachna University - Faculty of Law, UNCC India and Centre for Online Dispute Resolution.

The speakers included Justice BR Gavai of the Supreme Court, Justice GS Patel of the Bombay High Court and Additional Solicitor General for India ANS Nadkarni. The event was moderated by Shashank Garg and Divyakant Lahoti (Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court).

Webinar on Funding Infrastructure Disputes: Using Litigation Finance as a Strategic Tool

On 28 May 2020, the Society for Construction Law – Young Leaders Group (India) (SCL-YLG) hosted this webinar.

The speakers of this webinar included Tom Glasgow [Chief Investment Officer (Asia), Omni Bridgeway], Sindhu Sivakumar (Senior Investment Manager, Innsworth Advisors), Badrinath Durvasula (Former VP Legal and General Counsel, Hindustan Construction Co.), and Alastair Henderson [Managing Partner (South-East Asia), Herbert Smith Freehills].
